Temporary file hosting
Everything you upload has an ending.
Permanent hosting is a promise almost nobody keeps. Anon.Cat does not make it. Every file here has an expiry, the expiry is visible, and you never have to go back and tidy up.
- Files are removed after 30 days with no downloads
- Every download pushes the deadline back
- 1 GB per file, 10 GB every 24 hours
- No account to create and none to close later
Upload a file No account. No email. Just the file.
Expiry that follows use, not the calendar
Most temporary hosts start a timer at upload and delete on schedule, which fails in both directions: something you are actively sharing dies mid conversation, and something nobody wanted sits there for its full term anyway.
Here the clock runs from the last download. Share a link with a group and keep using it, and it stays. Upload something, change your mind and never send it, and it is gone in 30 days without any action from you.
Why an ending is the point
A file that lives forever is a file you have to think about forever. Where did that link go, who still has it, is it still public, is it in someone's index.
Time limited sharing removes the question. You send what you meant to send, the other person takes it, and the link stops being anyone's problem.
Text as well as files
Anon.Paste is the text side of the same idea. Paste a config, a log or a snippet, choose a lifetime from ten minutes to a day, and it holds itself to it.
A paste can also carry a password. Those are encrypted with XChaCha20-Poly1305, with the key derived from your password using Argon2id, and the password itself is never stored. That means we cannot read a protected paste, and it also means a forgotten password cannot be recovered.
Questions people actually ask
Can I choose a shorter expiry for a file?
Not per file yet. Files use the 30 days inactivity rule. Pastes do have a chosen lifetime, from ten minutes up to a day, or never.
What happens when a file expires?
It is deleted from storage, removed from the delivery network and dropped from the database. The link stops working.
Does viewing the page count as a download?
No. Only actually fetching the file counts, so a link that gets shared around but never opened still expires on time.
Can I delete something before it expires?
Write to info@anon.cat with the link. Removal requests about content go to abuse@anon.cat and are handled first.
